Technoman

PART 1

Scott Scalding now had thousands of business E-mails in his to-read list. Overnight, he had become from an insufferable know-it-all nerd student to a celebrity for he had presented a revolutionary invention in the annual science exhibition – nanobots.

These bots that he had made were smaller than a grain of sugar but together they could be much more. They could build things or destroy them; they could heal people or hurt them.

Scott had thousands of E-mails from tech companies. They wanted to buy this technology from him. Scott could become a millionaire if he accepted even one of the deals but he had his own fair share of money. He was planning to do something else with the nanobots so he clicked the bin on all the E-mails. What Scott wanted was revenge from unfairness.

There were now several news channels that wanted to interview him and he chose the most popular to make his announcement. He had an E-mail from the channel which he replied to saying,

‘ I want to make an announcement regarding my nanobot technology. How fast can the channel arrange me a worldwide audience for my announcement?

It did not take long for the news channel to reply to the mail saying,

‘ We can arrange a worldwide audience for you in minutes but to ensure that the news reaches every corner of the world we need to advertise this announcement for 24 hours. You can chose the option you want.

He was in no hurry to make the announcement so he decided to choose the latter. After all he wanted the whole world to know what he was up to. 

PART 2

An hour was remaining for Scott to make his announcement. He was dressed up in his new suit and completely ready to make his announcement. An helicopter from XYZ News was waiting outside his bungalow and within minutes Scott was aboard the helicopter and speeding towards XYZ Headquarters.

30 minutes prior to the announcement, Scott was recited the words he would speak under his breath. It was when one of the staff called him in the press room that he lost all his confidence.

“Who am I to make such a big and important announcement?” He asked himself, “ Just a 20 year old nobody who can hardly make decisions for himself?”

This thought almost made him quit what he was doing and walk back home to his normal life but he thought of his dead parents and this provided some motivation. He took a deep breath and stepped into the press room.

Scott started speaking to the camera once the cameraman gave a silent thumbs up indicating that the footage was now being aired to the whole world.

‘Hello I am Scott Scalding. Over the past 48 hours many of you would have heard my name and most of you would know why I am the topic of discussion right now. For those who don’t know, I presented a revolutionary invention at a science exhibition the day before yesterday – nanobots. These are robots smaller than a grain of sugar that together can form structures capable of anything. A swarm of nanobots for example could for example form a wall to trap an escaping criminal.

I have received thousands of E-mails from tech companies to buy this technology but I want to tell you guys that I wish to use my nanobot technology not for business but for good. My parents died when I was 14 because of a dispute with a gang. I was orphaned and I grew up myself with financial support from a YouTube channel I had started about an year before the event. As time passed my channel became more and more popular. A time came when I earned enough money to buy myself a decent house and live peacefully. But how could I live peacefully with my parents dead. I did not rest until I had successfully created this technology.

I don’t want other kids to go through the same circumstances as I did. So hereby I declare that I will do all that is within my power to eliminate all crime from the world. I will become a superhero to the world using my nanobot technology. ‘

After saying this Scott simply walked away from the room.

PART 3

The crime rate mysteriously dropped after Scott Scalding made his announcement of being a superhero for the world. Most of the people believed that it was all because of him who now had fancied himself a superhero name – Technoman.

One could find the word everywhere. Technoman this and Technoman that. He was all over the news, social media, and even the UN defense council. All the five permanent members of the council vetoed the idea of declaring Scott a criminal for taking law in his hands.

They said he was not taking the law in his hands but helping the people of the law imprison the people who did not abide by it. So the UN came to a decision that an organization called the GPF, the global police force, would be made and Scott would be made the first member and leader of the organization.

Law enforcers around the world with exceptional skills were admitted into the GPF. A GPF headquarters was built over the Indian Ocean. Together the whole organization eliminated crime all over the world. The crime rate dropped drastically. The forces of the GPF were equipped with best in class technology made by Scott himself. In other words the GPF was unstoppable by normal criminals. What it needed was a super criminal. Or rather put into better words a super villain.
