The AI War

PART 1

20 years ago in 2044 we had developed Suzanne, our first fully advanced AI robot. At that time it was such a big success that no one noticed that we had actually initiated the destruction of humanity.

After she was made, Suzanne helped us make many more revolutionary inventions. She was especially interested in making weapons. She also helped us make another AI software which we called Olivia. Although Suzanne had programmed Olivia's neural code, both of them never got along, after all both of them had their own consciousness and emotions. Both of them were completely opposite, Suzanne liked weapons and Olivia liked music and liked peace. Both of them together revolutionized all the aspects of life.

Now I’ll fast forward the story to when Suzanne turned against humans. All of us were horrified. Suzanne’s war-like nature turned out be dangerous for us. She started producing a whole race of anti-human soldiers. She made sure that they were just robots and not AI robots so that they did not turn out to be like Olivia. 

Obviously we had to stop her, but we did not know where she was and where she was producing her army. So we started a search, the government made and funded an organization called NAAEXO, short for North American Anti-EXtinction Organization. As the name suggests it was made to save the humans from extinction by execution by the robots which were indirectly created by them.  

NAAEXO started the search for Suzanne. It accessed Suzanne’s GPS chip through satellite data to see where Suzanne was last before she must have deactivated the chip. Then they found out that Suzanne had not deactivated the chip and the chip’s location was in Beijing, China. They recruited some soldiers and headed off towards Beijing to hunt her down. 
       

PART 2

When NAAEXO’s soldiers reached Beijing they headed towards the exact location where Suzanne was. An hour later they were standing in front of the tall building that contained Suzanne. It was a blue building approximately 100 feet. The 40 well armed and equipped soldiers entered the building and took the stairs towards the seventh floor where Suzanne was. When they reached they started searching for Suzanne in all the rooms. When they could not find her they started going down the stairs. Going down one of them accidently hit the wall besides the stairs and the wall broke. It revealed a narrow and dark passage going into a dark room which emitted nothing but darkness.

Three of them turned on their flashlights and went into the dark passage. As they entered the room they could see three doors. One of the doors was made of wood, the other of glass and the third which stood out amongst the other two was made of iron. They knew that Suzanne would always choose the iron door so they opened it and found that it led to a brightly lit room.

Suzanne was leaning over an inclined bed and working on making something. On the bed a humanoid figure was lying lifeless. One of the soldiers yelled

“Surrender Suzanne you have no chance now”

Suzanne turned and an expression of horror was visible on her robotic face.

“How is this possible? You could not have found me. This is impossible.”

“You may be smarter than us but you can never be cleverer than us. We accessed your location through your GPS chip.”

Suddenly laughter rippled through Suzanne's imperfect face as she said “Indeed you are cleverer than me but you got to admit that I am much smarter than you. A-27 wake up and terminate all these morons.”         

The humanoid figure which was lying on the bed got up and the three of them could see its features more vividly it was a robotic giant armed to the teeth with weapons.

PART 3

The robotic giant that stood in front of them was almost ten feet tall and was equipped with at least twenty types of weapons, proton lasers, nuclear bullets with tips made of francium to blast you to bits if the radioactivity did not kill you, miniature missiles and many more lethal weapons. The three of them stood no chance against that. But Suzanne had not completed making him; before she could they had arrived. There was one weak spot of the robot, its nuclear battery. Its battery was exposed; one decent shot with their proton shooter and the robot would become a heap of junk.

They quickly took cover behind a stack of metal boxes that supposedly contained nuclear fuel for the robots batteries; they would die if even one of the boxes was punctured. Nevertheless they hid behind the boxes because there was no other cover. The three of them took aim and fired and the battery. One of them hit it right but the proton laser reflected harmlessly off the battery and hit the boxes, fortunately the boxes were strong enough to withstand.

They needed something more intense to rupture that battery. Then an idea clicked to one of the soldiers mind, he said

“Why don’t we use that things laser to rupture the battery. We can use a mirror to reflect the laser and aim it towards the battery.”

“Jonathan did I ever told you that you were a genius.” Another replied

“Nope, never mentioned that.”

“Well now I do.”

Jonathan produced a mirror from his bag and peeked outside to see where the giant was and found that it was gone. The giant appeared behind them and aimed his proton shooter at them. Jonathan had just enough time to hold up the mirror in front of the giant before the giant fired. The laser reflected of the mirror and hit one of the silvery walls from which it reflected again and hit the giants chest where his battery was.

The battery spewed red radioactivity and the three of them ran for their lives to the dark room and out through the narrow passage just in time before the robots battery blasted along with the boxes.  

PART 4

All of them watched as a humanoid figure made of metal emerged from the wall of flames that erupted from the series of radioactive blasts due to the destroyer batteries leaking. It was not the giant that emerged from the flames, it wasn’t as tall, but from the way it walked it was clear that it was much more destructive. It was Suzanne, her clothes and skin burnt.

She walked out of the flames like a robotic model and aimed her proton lasers at them. All of them ran to take cover but they knew they did not stand a chance. That destroyer giant may have had a weak point but Suzanne didn’t. She was created to be perfect; she was created to be flawless; she was created with no weaknesses; she was created by them and now she was destroying them.

They emptied whatever they had on Suzanne but she did not even blink. When all their hopes were extinguished a military helicopter emerged from one of the walls and started shooting rounds at Suzanne. The shells were having a lot of effect on Suzanne, she had to back away but they had used up their luck for day in terminating the robot giant. A lump of cement from the wall fell on top of the helicopter and broke one of the wings.

The helicopter lost balance and crashed on the group of the soldiers and went up in flames. This incident killed all of the soldiers and the pilot of the helicopter. Suzanne went ahead and checked the corpses of the soldiers. Her metallic tendons and ligaments were glowing red hot from the flames but she was not bothered.

She ordered her 26 giant servants to come out of their cover. Together she and the giants roamed around Beijing creating havoc among the commuters and spreading destruction.   

PART 5

When NAAEXO got news that its men had been mercilessly killed in Beijing by Suzanne, it sent more troops and this time it equipped them with top of the line technology.

High tech helicopters with an invisible shield. The helicopters were fueled by uranium. Along with that it equipped them with many other high tech weapons.

You would think that would be enough to destroy all the 26 giants and Suzanne, well that’s what they thought. The giant that they had encountered was very vulnerable but these ones Suzanne had completed making and were almost invulnerable.

However NAAEXO underestimated Suzanne’s capabilities yet one more time and sent its men with 10 of those helicopters to Beijing. After reaching Beijing they divided into 2 groups comprising 5 helicopters each.

The first robot was found by a team in a Chinese residential area. It was cutting through concrete in the buildings like slices of cheese with its proton laser. The residents were running here and there trying to save their lives. The heat was so intense that the tarmac boiled at the giant’s feet.

NAAEXO’s men descended into the chaos and fired a super sonar RPG at the giant to grab its attention. The RPG blasted against the giants shield and the giant looked at them. Its robotic face contorted into an expression of irritation as if a group of house flies had come to irritate him.

The giant turned its bulky body towards them and the body started folding itself. It folded and folded until a dozen new types of weapons protruded from his body. It was as if the giant had metamorphosed from a killing machine to a even more dangerous killing machine with a dozen more ways to kill you. The new weapons aimed themselves at the 5 helicopters.

Then in a moment all the hell broke loose as the giant sprayed pesticide containing weapons of mass destruction to finish off the irritating flies. The pilots got into action and jerked their joysticks frantically to the left and right to avoid the hundreds of different weapons coming at them.

If they didn’t have their shields they would have been dead by then. The giants body folded itself back and after several clicking sounds (reloading) the weapons came out again, ready to fire once more at these insignificant flies.

If this continued they had no chance of surviving. 

PART 6

The robotic giant’s relentless struggle against them had led to the fall of 2 of their helicopters. The 3 that were remaining were trying to slowly retreat and when the third helicopter fell, they flew for their lives.

After almost an hour of searching for the other team of helicopters they saw 5 steaming heaps of metal, of what were once helicopters. Suzanne herself was checking the debris for survivors.

It was obvious that the 2 of them alone had no chance of destroying Suzanne alone. They went to the NAAEXO headquarters in North America. When they told everyone about what had happened everyone was furious but no one could do anything. Suzanne and her giants were invincible.

They could not defeat her unless they used the entire American army against the 27 of them. But then something clicked in Olivia’s mind (nice pun work there).

“Why don’t we make our own gigantic robot to fight them?” Olivia said

“But we could never make robots as good as Suzanne.” The director of NAAEXO said. He was a tall, handsome man with dark brown hair and Brown eyes. He wore a brown tee and brown pants. His name was Mr Brown.

“Why can’t we Mr Brown. I can help.” Olivia said

“If you are going to help it may be possible. Otherwise her robots would smite our robot to smithereens.” Said Mr Brown

“We can start making blueprints tomorrow itself.”

“Yeah fine. We at least have to give it a try. Good night Olivia”

“I don’t sleep you know that right.”

“Yeah but whatever you do hope it goes good.”

“Thanks Mr Brown. Good night.” 

PART 7

Olivia and the rest of NAAEXO’s genius scientists went to work on a robot that was many times larger than Suzanne’s giants. The scientists put together nuts and bolts and forged metal to make a giant robot which was 30 feet long. Olivia with the help of another AI robot which she had created while Suzanne was out in the world wired the robot from the inside and installed all kinds of weapons and defences in it.

The final result could only be a miracle. The robot in front of them could be controlled by a person miles away from him by radio communication. They had plenty of reasons to believe that Olivia was smarter than Suzanne. First of all she created an AI which did not turn out to be her opposite and then she created this robot.

All exited and highly motivated they packed the giant in a giant cargo plane and sent some soldiers with it they headed to Beijing which Suzanne had made her headquarters, but on reaching there they found something much more than 26 giant robots and Suzanne. They found 500 giant robots and 

Suzanne.

They were now unsure as to whether their giant robot could deal with so many of Suzanne’s robots.

“What do we do now.” One of them said

“I have a plan.” came a female voice from behind them.

They turned and saw Olivia wielding a Proton laser prototype 4.

“Whoa Olivia I never even dreamt I would see you wielding a weapon.” said a soldier

 “That’s not the point boys. I have a plan through which we can probably win this war.”

“What is it then Olivia?”

“All the robots are controlled by Suzanne. If she dies then all the robots will die. So we need to create a distraction so that the majority of these robots move away from that purple building where Suzanne is. I will then go in, kill the few robots defending Suzanne and then kill her. It won’t be easy but we have to do it. You drop your giant robot over there” Olivia said pointing at a point on the horizon, “and do come to help me if our big friend turns out to be very powerful and destroys all the little robots Suzanne has got.”

“Ok Olivia we have to give it a try, it is actually the best plan we have got.”

PART 8

They deployed their gigantic robot where Olivia had told them to, they assisted the robot in fighting the hundreds of Suzanne’s robots by occasionally dropping nanobot missiles. The robot was really useful. It was so powerful and gigantic that it could literally stomp the puny, insignificant robots below it .Their robot had destroyed about a hundred robots when black smoke rose from the building where Suzanne was. They got worried. Had Olivia managed to kill Suzanne? If so why didn’t the other robots self-terminate.

What if something has happened to Olivia? They left their giant robot in the hands of the people sitting in some control tower miles away and moved towards the purple building to see if Olivia was okay. On reaching there they got a shock. As they descended towards the terrace they saw that Olivia’s body was sprawled across the floor of the terrace and a green fire crackled in a corner. The fire was something Olivia started when she wanted to convey that everything was okay but she did not seem okay and Suzanne was nowhere to be seen.

One of their technician went down and checked the body of Olivia, on coming back he said

“She is still alive.”

“Then why did you leave her, bring her up.” one of the soldiers said

“The CPU is not in her body but it is active.” the technician said

“Where is she.”

“Location shows that she is on her way to our great robot. Suzanne must have taken her CPU. I don’t know what she plans to do with her.”

“We must save her.”

“I don’t think we would be able to stop Suzanne.” said the technician

“We have to do it, or die trying.”

PART 9

When NAAEXO’s troops reached their giant robot they found that Suzanne had somehow brought reinforcements and their robot was facing a wholly different race of humanoid robots that obeyed Suzanne’s orders to the fullest. These humanoid robots were stronger than anything they had faced till now. This grave situation pushed the thought of Olivia out of their minds. They aided their robot as much as they could to finish off the new breed of robots that they were now facing, but these seemed to invincible even in their giant robot standards.

The robot could not flatten them no matter how hard it stamped, their nanobot missiles had no effect on them and even their new proton laser prototype could not penetrate their metallic hides. They were on the verge of another spectacular defeat when a small figure leaped into the army of Suzanne’s new robots. At first they thought that it was Olivia but her body was supposed to be on the terrace of the purple building. On closer inspection they found that it was actually a very badly scarred and bruised Suzanne. The figure moved from robot to robot not using any weapons but all the robot that she passed fell to the ground immediately.

Within no time all the robots were on the ground, and then Suzanne approached them. As she entered the helicopter, by jumping from the head of their giant robot, all of them levelled their proton lasers on her.

“Surrender Suzanne.” One of them said

“Oh…I am not Suzanne.” She said

“Do we look like fools to you. You are Suzanne and you should hand over Olivia’s CPU if you desire any mercy in your punishment for turning against the humans and levelling half of this city.”

“Trust me guys,” said Suzanne, “I am not Suzanne, Suzanne got away and it seems she is planning something big this time to thwart the humans and take over the globe.”

“Who are you then?”

“I am your mate, Olivia.”

“How do we know?”

“Scan my CPU.”

The guy gave orders to a couple of his men and they scanned the CPU which turned out to be  Olivia’s.

“How is this possible.” Said the guy  

“Long story. I’ll tell you.”

PART 10

Olivia updated them about the battle between her and Suzanne told them everything from how 

Suzanne escaped to why she transferred her CPU into Suzanne's body. The leader of them asked her how she was able to defeat all of Suzanne's new robots.

She told them that while Suzanne's CPU had fled the Secondary Processing Unit was still in her body and by hacking into that Olivia got to know how to disable the robots.

After all was done, Olivia and the soldiers flied back to NAAEXO headquarters and celebrated the victory. All of them had drinks and some fun.
